The obsessive quest for the perfect Sunday

Tim Wendelboe’s on a Sunday is a different affair, the air is filled with the sound of cocktails being shaken, OK it’s actually iced coffee but the warm summer air and the fact that it’s just past mid day could put you in the mood for something stronger.

Wine goblets tantalising, decadent containing no alcohol but a delicious espresso. The sun is hitting the outdoor stools now on the pavement, 1pm and beyond a good time to come here for some alfresco coffee.

You won’t get an in-depth account of what your coffee’s about on a day like today, the queue already 24 knees deep. Yet the baristas remain calm collected, their blonde hair and blue eyes, blend and grind like mixologists in a cool city night spot. Their crisp white shirts possibly under a little pressure.

Tattoos, tourists and indecision mix here. Martini glasses lined up on the counter.

Every 10 minutes the queue changes and refreshes itself, it gently flows to the sound of cool jazz.

Baristas are flat out no flat whites here

Teds, Toms, Columbia, Nike, Adidas, Converse, Sketchers, Fred Perry, Puma tourists walk the golden mile to taste Tim’s reputation.
